Melton in Bloom Silver Award!

MELTON in Bloom is celebrating its best year yet at the East Midlands in Bloom awards after walking away with Silver Gilt status and a whole host of other awards.

The team, which worked incredibly hard to produce a wide range of spectacular floral displays for the benefit of the town and its tourists this year, was just seven points off clinching gold in the large town category.

It also picked up an array of other awards at the ceremony last Wednesday including,

- A Judges Award for the creative design and maintenance of Egerton Lodge Residential Home garden

- The Frank Constable Award for best front garden, which went to Mr and Mrs Goddard of Tamar Road

- Richard Barnes Funeral Directors gained a silver award for best retail/commercial premises in the town

- The Anne of Cleves pub scooped a silver award for best hotel/pub garden or display in the town

- Sherard Primary School picked up a silver award for best school garden in Melton

- St Mary’s Church, gained an outstanding Level 5, in the It’s your Neighbourhood category.

- Broadoak Lodge Care Home picked up Level 3 in the It’s your Neighbourhood category.

After its biggest win yet, the team is now looking to the future and is making plans to secure gold next year.

Marie Walters, Melton in Bloom chairwoman, said: “We are looking for about 12 more volunteers to help carry us forward this year.

“We have so much work to do including finishing off the heritage garden at Melton Council’s Parkside offices and creating winter displays in all of the town centre planters.

“We are also looking for local businesses and individuals to come forward to help sponsor displays, as well as get involved themselves by sprucing up their shop fronts, this is particularly the case in Norman Way and on Snow Hill industrial estate.
